Section classII-2

Overview

Registered in 2009 as an open-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Rosedale Black Hole', 'Taurus' is a large, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green, heavily cupped and corrugated, nearly round leaves with slightly rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the upper surface. The leaf blade is notably thick and substantial, with 14 to 15 vein pairs, and the plant produces numerous seed pods.

In the Garden

'Taurus' reaches a mature size of approximately 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 25 inches (63.5 cm) in diameter, with an upright growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its glaucous coloration is most pronounced. The substantial leaf texture and compact, rounded form make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders; its heavy substance and fast growth allow it to compete effectively with larger perennials such as ferns and astilbes.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaf substance offers moderate resistance to slugs, though standard preventative measures are advisable in damp conditions; deer may browse young foliage.
