Overview

Registered in 2002 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Striptease', 'Tassels' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its unstable variegation, which produces leaves with medium green centers and variable streaks of creamy white, white, celedon, and light green, set against slightly rippled white margins. The foliage exhibits a glaucous bloom on the underside and a slightly shiny upper surface, while the scapes are streaked and reach 18 to 22 inches (45.7–55.9 cm) in height.

In the Garden

With a mature spread of 22 inches (55.9 cm) and a height of 14 inches (35.6 cm), 'Tassels' forms a compact, mound-like clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or containers. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other small shade perennials. Its moderate growth rate and small size make it an appropriate choice for troughs or mixed shade containers.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Tassels' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
