Overview
Registered in 1983 by Le Jardin Botanique de Montreal, 'Tall Boy' is a giant variegated hosta derived from *Hosta rectifolia*. It is visually distinctive for its exceptionally tall scapes, reaching up to 96 inches (243.8 cm), and its large leaves with bright green margins.
In the Garden
'Tall Boy' forms a substantial clump 35 inches (88.9 cm) in diameter and 30 inches (76.2 cm) tall, with leaves 16 inches (40.6 cm) long and 9 inches (22.9 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its towering scapes make it a strong vertical accent in the border or woodland garden. Due to its giant size, it is not suited for containers and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage the foliage, and deer are known to browse the leaves and scapes.
