Sweet Tater Pie

Hosta "Sweet Tater Pie" review

12" tall. Part Sun to Light Shade. Glossy chartreuse golden color which changes throughout the leaf. Thick waxy leaves. Very wavy. Purple starlike flowers. Our 1993 release resulted from a cross of Hosta 'Gold Scepter' x Hosta yingeri (Hosta 90-353). Hosta 'Sweet Tater Pie' has thick waxy leaves that are very wavy. The glossy chartreuse golden color (brightest in spring) changes throughout the leaf with the waves. The 30" wide clump is topped with purple star-like flowers in midsummer on 28" scapes...the perfect southern dessert! You know from the name that it has to be from Tony Avent. From a cross of 'Gold Scepter' and yingeri, it has thick, waxy, golden leaves, lanceolate and very wavy. Purple star-shaped flowers. Small, chartreuse golden leaves, very waxy. Makes wide clump. Purple star-like flowers mid-summer. This new small glossy gold from America is surprisingly vigorous. Leaves are of good texture and do not melt out (burn). Makes a lovely container or rockery plant. Pale lavender flowers.
