Year registered2004
Section classIV-6a

Overview

Registered in 2004, 'June Fever' is a small sport distinguished by its unusual golden yellow leaf centers with narrow, dark green margins. The ovate leaves measure 5.4 inches (13.7 cm) long and 2.8 inches (7.1 cm) wide, with eight pairs of veins and a slightly shiny surface on both sides. The flat, .2-inch-wide margins contrast with the bright central coloration, and the plant forms a moderate-growing mound 15 inches (38.1 cm) high and 29.5 inches (74.9 cm) in diameter.

In the Garden

'June Fever' performs well in typical hosta-growing zones, with noted sun tolerance that helps maintain its gold leaf centers. Its small size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, where its compact mound and light green scapes rising 19.5 to 27 inches (49.5 to 68.6 cm) provide vertical interest. Companion plants with contrasting foliage, such as dark-leaved heucheras or fine-textured ferns, complement the bright leaf color.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in sunnier exposures, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
