Jewel of the Nile

Hosta "Jewel of the Nile" review

Kevin Walek brings us this fantastic sport from Hosta 'Dee's Golden Jewel' that displays a unique and very complimentary color combination: the leaves have blue centers surrounded by an irregular golden-yellow border with some streaking. The leaf is quite rounded but comes to a point and has superior substance. This moderate grower is topped with pale lavender flowers in June and can take lots of sun. The current featured hosta, 'Jewel of the Nile', is one of Kevin Walek's newest. This spectacular hosta, which was registered in 2000, is a sport of another of Kevin's beautiful hostas, 'Dee's Golden Jewel'. 'Jewel of the Nile' forms a large, upright mound of shiny, bright blue leaves that are edged with a wide irregular gold border. Its near white flowers bloom in June or July. This plant has excellent substance and is sun tolerance. This 'jewel' is even more beautiful than Cleopatra!
