Fire and Ice

Hosta "Fire and Ice" review

10" tall. Part Sun to Light Shade. Brilliant white center with very dark green margins streaking toward the middle of the leaf. A hosta with pure white centers and very dark green irregular margins. Lavender flowers on white scapes. This exciting slow growing dwarf hosta from Shady Oaks is the reverse of the popular Hosta 'Patriot'. The thick pure white leaves are surrounded by a contrasting black green border. Each 15" wide clump is topped with sturdy stalks of light lavender flowers in mid summer. Hosta 'Fire and Ice' must have good morning sun or steady filtered shade to maintain its vigor. The reverse of Hosta 'Patriot', this one has pure white leaf centers with very dark green margins and very heavy substance. The lavender flowers are borne on white scapes and when seed pods are produced they are also white. A wonderful and bright addition to the shady border. A sport of 'Patriot' with pure white leaves with dark green margins. Lavender flowers. Sold for $800 at the '97 auction. Very heavy substance.
