Hosta "Alex Summers" review
A sport of 'Gold Regal' with a green leaf, surrounded by a gold margin of variable width. Purple bell shaped flowers. Leaves are chartreuse gold held upward and centered blue-green, leaving at least 3/4 of the leaf gold. A great hosta named for a great person. This stunning mutation of H 'Gold Regal' has been one of the most sought-after hostas since its introduction 10 years ago. Gardeners who were lucky enough to secure a piece were hesitant to share. Just like the parent, H 'Alex Summers' makes a near perfect upright 3' wide clump, now with dark-green leaves with a contrasting wide golden border. In July in NC, the clumps are topped by sturdy attractive flower spikes of lavender. Yes, this is named after our friend, and one of the founding members of the American Hosta Society.
